Have you tried to prepare the image?

dd   if=/dev/zero   of=/home/disk.img    bs=4096  count=3000111

mke2fs -j /home/disk.img

mount -t ext3 -o loop /home/disk.img  /mnt/disk_mount

Did you have available space in your filesystem?
