[one-users] VM reboot, was [Cannot shutdown VM]

Hi,

Can we atleast have a mechanism to shutdown a VM and restart the same VM if reboot is not possible, like we have in virt-manager? The behaviour we have now is that when we perform a shutdown in the VM is stopped and the VM image is completly deleted from the server. 'Delete' could handle this behaviour and we could have a 'Shutdown' and 'Start' functionality as a workaround for reboot.

Regards,
Harsha

Subject: VM reboot, was [Cannot shutdown VM]

Hi,

It seems that KVM/QEMU does not implements reboot, as for v 0.7.0

http://libvirt.org/git/?p=libvirt.git;a=blob;f=src/qemu_driver.c;h=412b68d44973c76ce3efc72fc4c057874a17b2ec;hb=22a5ebe44b935572dfc585ccca0d477587a44ed8#l6757

Xen implements this but it probably needs on_reboot="restart". However it
seems that it does not work for all versions (I am trying with 3.2.0
and the VM does not restart...)

Vmware VI SDK provides a RebootGuest method so it should not be an issue.

As the reboot action needs some hypervisor modification/tunning and it
does not work for all of them I propose to move this feature to 1.4.2

Cheers

Ruben
