On the Ceph Wiki they write: "Upstream libvirt supports snapshotting RBD 
devices since 0.9.12. The version included in Ubuntu 12.04 also includes 
this capability".

I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 with libvirt version 1.0.2.

So theoretically my system is supported for having snapshots...
